Prepare before you panic

This checklist is intentionally simple. In an emergency, you do not want to search through texts, screenshots, and old emails.

Save your regular veterinarian’s phone number Add the clinic name, hours, and address to your phone. Save the nearest emergency vet Know where you would go at night or on a weekend. Keep vaccine and medication records easy to find Your vet may ask for dates, current medications, allergies, or recent treatment. Write down your puppy’s current food Food, treats, supplements, and chews matter if your puppy has vomiting, diarrhea, or an allergic reaction. Know your puppy’s normal behavior Energy, appetite, potty habits, and breathing can help you notice changes faster. Keep unsafe items out of reach Medications, cleaners, toxic foods, cords, small objects, and certain plants should be secured. Ask your vet what symptoms require urgent care Get clear guidance for vomiting, diarrhea, breathing trouble, collapse, toxin exposure, injury, or refusing food. Do not give human medicine unless your vet tells you to Many common human medications can be dangerous for dogs.
